The Ocala Marion County Transportation Planning Organization (TPO) is a federally mandated agency responsible for coordinating transportation projects, including highway, transit, rail, bicycle, pedestrian, aviation and paratransit, throughout the county. The TPO allocates federal transportation funds and works to improve the region’s transportation system by developing a variety of plans and programs.


About Us
The Ocala Marion County Transportation Planning Organization (TPO) is the federally mandated entity responsible for developing a comprehensive, cooperative, and continuous transportation planning process across Marion County. Established in 1981—shortly after the region’s urbanized area surpassed 50,000 residents—the TPO serves the cities of Ocala, Belleview, and Dunnellon, as well as the surrounding unincorporated areas.
Our services

Transportation Improvement Program
A short‑range, five‑year plan that allocates funding and schedules multimodal transportation projects—including roads, transit, bicycle, pedestrian, and aviation—ensuring they are financially feasible and prioritized for Marion County

Congestion Management Process (CMP)
A systematic, ongoing initiative designed to improve traffic safety and reliability on major Marion County roadways by evaluating congestion and recommending targeted demand‑reduction and infrastructure improvements

Public Transit Planning (SunTran)
The TPO supports and coordinates planning for SunTran, Marion County’s fixed-route public transit system, ensuring effective route design, service improvements, and integration with regional mobility goals.
